Happy Saturday! It’s such a beautiful day today in Charlotte so I wanted to put this together this morning so I can spend the rest of the day outside! Being from New York this 65 degree weather feels like summer time! Anyways..I’ve been wanting to get this blog post together for a little while now, there is a lot to share. This was such a big transformation, and being able to see all the before and after pictures in one place was a must to really see everything that we accomplished. The home was in great shape when we got started, with a lot of shades of brown spread throughout. Our main focus was to lighten the space and add layers to the rooms to create a more cozy and homey feel which was lacking before. We were on a mission to get rid of the brown tones and add a transitional flair.

Here are a few pictures of what we started with !

When I was creating my design boards I started at the front of the house and worked my way back. I created the color story in the foyer, working that into each room from there. We ended up using blue as our main grounding color throughout the house and accented it with pops of blush and yellow which made the spaces feel bright and fun, and definitely not too serious.

To take away more of the brown tones in the space, we painted the stair rail in high-gloss Ben Moore Kendall Charcoal paint. With a staircase that is super visible, I like to either add a fun carpet runner up the stairs or paint the railing to breakup all the heavy wood.

Moving right past the foyer, it opens into the kitchen and living area. Here is where the majority of the big changes happened. We took the kitchen from dark to completely light and clean. To keep within our budget we chose to work around the black granite countertops and appliances. The backsplash that we went with really helped tie the kitchen together, the counter tops look intentional in the space rather than something we were working around. Here is where we landed..

One of my favorite areas in the home is the breakfast nook. This space was not getting a lot of use and the table seemed out of place. I really wanted to create a built-in corner, but with the current set up of the space it just would not work. We did a little tweaking and blocked off the room in-between the columns to be able achieve this look.

We closed the opening between the two columns and mimicked the existing molding, once it was filled in it looked like it was always supposed to be that way! ( funny how that happens.. sometimes I wonder why builder why?! ) After that was accomplished this design unfolded..

The space that was created ended up being a cozy, cute nook that is super inviting. I love the pop of pink and yellow in this area.

Playing off of this, we move into the living area.. We did a little rearranging of the room. We started by moving the TV above the fireplace and cutting in some sconces to anchor the long wall. We then framed out the wall sconces we added with wallpaper panes to add another layer of texture. As I said before, the space was lacking layers and warmth so we did a lot to change that! Going with a grasscloth wallpaper apposed to a printed standard paper helped warm the area up.

Throwing a throw, it’s an art.

Now on to the dining room! I sounds like a broken record but I’ll say it anyways.. we wanted to brighten it up! The couple living in this home is a young fun couple, so they did not need a stuffy formal dining room. The goal for this space was to have a dining room that people actually wanted to sit in, that had an elevated casual vibe where you could hang out in after dinner. Though the house is not a full open concept I wanted to make sure each room flowed well together. We stuck with the blue accent color and went pretty neutral with the other elements.

This room ended up becoming an extension of the dining room..

The last space that received an overhaul was the master bedroom. Similar to the rest of the house, we started with a blank slate since the current furniture was leaving. Let me remind you of what we started with!

We went with a soft wallpaper with a hand painted look to anchor the bed wall. In keeping with the changes we made downstairs we added some punch to the room with bold doses of navy blue.

Crisp white bedding and curtain panels kept the room feeling bright and balanced out the darker side chests and bench.

This space is a bit unrecognizable from where we started, it has a great big personality and and is ready to host birthdays and holidays !
